What is FTP?
FTP stands for “File Transfer Protocol”. FTP is a process used for transferring data from your computer to the web. Most people use an FTP Application to help in transferring and exchanging files from the web, popular tools include: CoreFTP, FTP Explorer and CuteFTP. Some web designers have HTML editors with built in FTP tools, such as Adobe Dreamweaver or Microsoft FrontPage.
Using FTP is convenient for website managers that what to post updates to web pages on a regular basis. Some site owners that are not web savvy ask a website designer to manage the site for them, many website designer’s provide website maintenance services. The website designer would use FTP to connect the the owner’s site. FTP is considered the mosy simplest way of uploading or downloading files on the web today.
sFTP is another term used for FTP, the ’s’ stands for secure. You can use sFTP to transfer securely to secure servers on the web. For those looking to transfer files via sFTP, I would recommend using CoreFTPLite, a freeware that has an option for SFTP in the application.
