Buying a used domains can be good for your SEO campaign, it will be aged and hopefully have a good page rank. You can avoid the google ’sandbox’ if you buy an older domain, but you have to do it the ‘right’ way. For instance, if you have a business selling flowers, make sure the domain you buy is from a related industry (flowers, gifts, gardening etc). Also make sure the domain isn’t already expired - remember you’re trying to buy a domain that is aged and you just want to change name ownership only.
When you do manage to rebuy the domain that perfectly fits your needs. it makes sende to also buy hosting with the same host the old user had, or have them transfer ownership of that too - this is important because Google tracks changes of IP addresses and changing your host can result in a new IP address assignment. Moving to other host can cause Page Rank loss and temporary penalty.
