Web Design is an important aspect for SEO (search engine optimization). If you have a web designer that doesn’t understand the concepts of SEO you may suffer consequences later on or need to do a possible re-design or your website.
Here are some easy ways to see if your website was designed by a web designer that took SEO into consideration:
1. Easy your site is to navigate internally, i.e. homepage links to other pages within your site? it should.
2. Meta Tags - in IE Explorer browser, click ‘View’ and the click ‘Source’ a bunch of your webpage code will come up, have a look at the top 20 lines, do you see META TAGS for Title, Descripton, and Keywords? You should. Are they representing the page topic and your service correctly?
3. What is the size of your homepage? download the file (File, Save As) from your browser, the on your PC have a look at the file size, is it under 35k? It should be for fast loading (unless you have a portal type homepage with major content on it).
4. What is your Text to Code ratio? Use this tool to see, it should be 20% or higher (the higher the better).
