Image Verification Stops Form Spam

Posted on Wednesday 15 November 2006

Do you have forms on your website that are getting spammed? One way to stop this is by adding CAPTCHA to your form. CAPTCHA stands for “Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart”.

It’s basically an image displayed to every web site visitor who wishes to submit a form response. This image contains a string of characters that the web site visitor must type into the specified input box. If the string is correctly typed in the form response will be processed as usual. Otherwise, another CAPTCHA image will be generated and the visitor may try again until successful. Spam bots can’t see the images in the code and therefor can’t use your form for spamming.
